新源记 Fishhead Bee Hoon

A few days back, Miss Lua brought me to eat Fish Bee Hoon a.k.a 鱼片/头米粉 at 新源记. She said it's rather famous and she likes their soup. It is located just next to ICON and opp Bugis Junction. Standing outside BreadTalk, U'll just need to cross the road over to the left lane where Ritz Apple Strudel is and 新源记 is just behind RAS.

They do serve other food items like chicken rice (they look good), assam fishhead curry, sweet & sour pork rice (tts a big temptation!) etc, but I guess what made them famous's their Fish Meat/Head Bee Hoon. We ordered Fish Meat Bee Hoon/soup (FMBH) each and their homemade Lime Juice. FMBH costs from $4.50 to $10.00 depending on the type of fish ordered and/or if u wanna add XO to it LOL. Prices are nett and u need not pay for other taxes. Service was prompt.

Woah... ok I must say, for a $4.50 bowl of FMBH, I dun mind coming back again. The soup's really good. Initially I thot it wld taste 'milky' cos the soup did look 'milky'. But WRONG! Its not, the taste was light and aromatic from the I-suppose-is-carnation-milk. The fish was fresh as well. I kept asking Lua if MSG was added cos I'm so confident they did not add any into it [they'd better not else I'll be so disappointed~]. & I did not feel thirsty at all for hours after my meal so maybe I'm right?! [oh... or was it the brilliant lime juice that did the trick? A winner too cos its not too sour to taste and very refreshing and Lua said Plum Juice which was sold out tt day tasted even better]

** Sidetrack a little...
Look! LOL... still rem these stationaries... The brands were wat we yearned for when we were in primary school, right?!

翠香亭月饼

Click to view actual size Today when I came home, I saw something striking in the kitchen; A maroon color paper bag sat quietly on the dining table. ITS MOONCAKE (MC) LOL! Cos MoonCake Festival is round the corner u know... and as my dad's popularity is very high [y his daughter has got no popularity ~?] he gets alot of gifts from his customers lol. So... this box of mooncake is no exception.

Eh I think the box is nice cos it unfolds like a book and inside, u can see the calligraphy and my dad says its a 'symbolism' of high-class-ness.... I dunno abt calligraphy la but I agreed LOL. The MCs are from 翠香亭. I really have got no idea where it is from so if u know, dun mind can tell me k. Yeah~ Yours truly knows abt the 1000 calories fact. I din eat so I kept bugging my dad asking him how does it taste?! He said quite nice, asked me try but I declined~ and the 'skin' is very thin! YAH! Can u see... its that thin! OMG! [click on the pic to enlarge image]

Then the flavours are (clockwise from top lefthandcorner): Fine Grains Roast Chicken (FGRC) 五仁烤鸡, Green Tea Pine Seed (GTPS), Double Yolk White Lotus (DYWL) 双黄白莲 (which has been attacked by my dad), Single Yolk Red Lotus (SYRL) 单黄红莲. Weird leh... the 1st and the last flavour.... Dad says FGRC is for the old folks lol... I dunno... and red lotus? K, I'll sample a little tml. FGRC sounds so weird!Tsk...

Updated: YES! For the benefit of you all, I risked my waistline and sampled the MCs... of cos I took very thin slices so I shld've intake abt less than 250 calories :( FGRC tastes really weird. I cant appreciate it. I now understand why dad says its meant for the old folks. I cant describe its taste cos its so ehm sthg I feel it shouldn't be used for MC's filling! I wasn't sure if I ate any roast chik there were grains and nuts tho. Its rather messy. I dun like it and the aftertaste is there..... (-_-)" GTPS is very aromatic and I tot the taste will be very rich but to my surprise, its quite mild in taste. The flagrance stays in ya mouth, I quite like it. SYRL ehm... I din quite like it 2. Sorry I forgot the taste le but it has a taste which I can't make out what is it. DYWL is good. Texture is smooth and its not too sweet either. Dun ask me abt yolk I din eat them. N white lotus is a healthier choice LOL. YES!!! the 'skin' is really really thin that I thot I'm only eating the fillings.

P.S.: ... I saw NTUC carrying this 'brand'. On their signboard, it claims 'handmade', 'original', 'hongkong receipe', 'traditional ingredients'.
